BACKGROUND
UN declared 2003 as Year for Water, identifying access to water as a key challenge to be addressed, and issued the report ‘Water for People, Water for Life’ . Inspired by this challenge, and provided with the opportunity by Aalto University in Finland, I proposed, design a solution with this theme.
FRAMEWORK
Environment. Each day, our Planet Earth cleans herself through rain. Water evaporates, condenses and falls back on earth as pure water. Collected by leaves, it nurtures our flora and grows life.
People & Behavior. My goal has been to envision a new experience and process to get the drinkable needs for clean water for a small family, based on natural principles existent in nature, in a way that changes behavior and enables us to rethink how we drink water.
CONCEPT
Pure is your personal family water purifier, providing up to 4L per day. Sitting outside on your deck or garden, Pure filters and cleans the water you put inside (using solar power) while capturing and collecting rain water, Like a family pet, Pure is a trusted friend, who makes you rethink what/ how you behave. It reinforces the positive behavior of conscientiousness around water usage, and highlights how much time and effort our planet needs to clean herself. And how much we should treasure access to clean water.
